Why do we ask for Customer VAT Numbers?

Why do we ask for Customer VAT Numbers?

As the exclusive distributor for ESET products in South Africa and Namibia, we are contractually obliged to fulfil certain data quality requirements that are set out for us by ESET HQ. We try to make ordering ESET licenses as pain-free as possible, but ESET HQ do require us to at least collect the following customer information for all orders:
  1. Customer Name
    1. Company Name or Individual Name
  2. Customer Email
    1. The email address of the primary contact at the Customer organisation (or in the case of an Individual, just their email).
  3. Customer VAT Number
    1. There are certain allowable exceptions to this:
      1. Customer is an Individual
      2. Customer is not VAT Registered
      3. Customer is a Government Organisation or other entity that does not have a VAT Number
The system is designed to encourage the accurate collection the above mentioned customer information, and will do so when you create new customers, as well as prompt you to confirm existing customer information during Upgrade and Renewal orders.

We recognise that some resellers might be uncomfortable with disseminating this information, however it is a vendor requirement and we only ask what is absolutely necessary. Our reseller channel is very important to us, and it is in our best interests to protect the relationships that our resellers have with their own customers. Hence, our entire business is oriented around supporting and maintaining the relationships that customers have with our resellers, rather than taking on direct clients.
